Paper will never go out of fashion!
How to make an interactive catalog?
The Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten is an art museum in Marl, focusing its collection on sculptures from the Classical Modernism era and contemporary art.
The museum also hosts an international sound and video competition and exhibits the works of the winners.
The task
Creating a video exhibition complemented by a catalog that allows viewers to experience the exhibition itself (sound, video), rather than merely observing printed images on paper.
But how could we incorporate video?
The solution entailed developing an image recognition server capable of recognizing every page of the book (no URL, id or any other machine code). The museum's website featured an "Interactive Catalog" section. This brought up a camera view, enabling them to point their phone at any page to see the corresponding video.
Fun fact
During the opening, there was even a stand where the catalog lay on a table in front of a large TV screen, with a discreetly placed camera mounted on the ceiling. The effect was remarkable—guests browsed through the catalog, and the screen displayed the related video work.
Other work involved the creation of more classic catalogs.
With all bells and whissels that a printed product of a musium should have.
